With a brief concerning a forthcoming photoshoot that needed to look old and feature and old church or chapel, Montsalvat came to mind! Here’s some test shots I did today in preparation…

Emma McEvoy’s Sand Castles

My interest was certainly piqued when casually watching the news the other night. An abandoned, derelict house in Fitzroy, filled with tonnes of sand housing an amazing photo exhibition by the incredibly Emma McEvoy. I am so there! The house in Hertford Street, Fitzroy was filled with over 9 tonnes of sand pretty much bringing a slice of the Namibian ghost town of Kolmanskop into the inner suburbs of Melbourne. The inspiration for the installation is located in the Namibian […]

Morton Ray Abandoned Masonic Temple

I had seen pictures of this place just as the Freemasons had left it. Driving past the place almost every day, I have always wanted to have a peek inside but the place has been heavily secured and closed. Lately tho, I have noticed that the front doors have been open. So today, I decided to have a look. Those initial photos I had seen look nothing like what these ones do. The place has been completely ransacked and destroyed. […]

A Tour Of The Manchester Unity Building

Jewell In The Crown Over the course of my life in Melbourne, which happens to be my entire life, I always stop and stare at the magnificent tower and wonder what it would be like to view the city from up there. The Manchester Unity Building proves to be one of the most popular attractions during Melbourne’s Open House annual weekends where select buildings and locations are made available to the general public. I have tried to get in so […]

The Abandoned Bradmill Factory

Located at Fogarty Avenue in Yarraville, literally at the foot of the West Gate Bridge, is the abandoned Bradmill Factory. The abandoned mill is nearly 100 years old now and would have to be one of the most easily accessible derelict locations I’ve ever explored. Drove in, parked the car and in I went to take some photos. Not a soul around. The former textile mill is soon to become a ‘mini-suburb’ so I don’t think it will be around […]

The Holy And Haunted Grounds Of The Abbotsford Convent

I very recently completed a photo shoot of a fantastic Metal band at the Abbotsford Convent. As much as I want to show you that work, some patience is required as the band is not yet ready to release them. Soon! The Convent has so many fantastic locations to shoot at that are open to the general public. Some are not, but if you know where to look and are willing to be a little daring, you’ll soon enough find […]

A Visit To The Old Geelong Gaol

Down Among The Dead Men As my photography is leaning towards more portrait work these days, and whilst I am in the throes of establishing my own studio, I like photographing various cool locations that can be utilised for band/model photo shoots such as the Old Geelong Gaol. The Old Geelong Gaol is a location I have had earmarked for a very, very long time. I had seen various photos of the place online, but I wanted to head down […]

The Abandoned School

School’s Out… Forever! I was given the heads up about an abandoned location in Melbourne’s outer east. The school out in Boronia had not been long closed, but looking at the state of utter destruction that confronted me, it looked like a bomb had gone off in each and every room of the campus. After a 50 minute drive, the driveway to the school was completely open and almost inviting. I checked to see if there were any trespass signs […]

William Ricketts Sanctuary

It had been a while since I was in Mt Dandenong. I had a shoot organised there today for a Melbourne band at a somewhat ‘secret’ location that the band had found. We did our shoot in a very secluded cave. The photos turned out amazing and they’ll be available to be seen after the band’s album is released. Watch this space ok? Seeing as I was in the area, I decided to visit the William Ricketts Sanctuary as I […]

A Stroll Through Larundel Mental Asylum

These photos of the Larundel Mental Asylum taken back in 2009. It was much easier to get into then. On this particular day, my girlfriend and I literally – just walked in. (Well, climbed through a small hole in the fence wall, but yeah, just walked on in! I have tried to go back several times but it is now heavily secured and patrolled. Anyway, take a walk with me through the haunted, evil hallways of the infamous Larundel Mental […]
