Mason Promo Shoot

Mason At The Old Geelong Gaol On a location scout to the Old Geelong Gaol a few months ago, my first impression was, “I can’t wait to get a band in here for a shoot!” I had the location shots on file but found that I was having trouble selling the idea to potential clients. I felt it was an amazing location, full of different textures and scenery and a couple of hours in the place, and we could get […]

AC/DC Live @ Etihad Stadium, Melbourne

It’s A Long Way To The Top… It’s got to have been a great year in the photo-pit when you get to tick off two big ones off your Bucket List… KISS and now, AC/DC. Photo wise, this would also prove to be the biggest gig I have ever done. Arriving at Etihad Stadium, I quickly realised I have not shot here before and I had absolutely no idea where I was to meet up with my contact for access […]

Black Label Society Live @ 170 Russell, Melbourne

Destruction Overdrive! Looking at my forthcoming gig calendar a couple of weeks ago, I noticed I was down to cover Black Label Society on both night’s of their Australian tour. Two nights in a row with Zakk would be magic in anyone’s book – including mine, but I decided I would only cover the one night. With a toss of the coin, tonight was the winner! I was eagerly anticipating this gig because every time Zakk’s been in town, I’ve […]

Blackhelm Promo Shoot

The Blackhelm shoot you see before you had been done and dusted several months ago in the heart of Melbourne’s winter. The shoot was embargoed however, until the band (formerly Metalstorm) was ready to be unleashed to the world under their new moniker, Blackhelm. I was so antsy as I really wanted people to see these shots as I felt that we had a great day together making them. Well, the time has come and Blackhelm are ready for the […]

Melbourne Zombie Shuffle 2015

The Dead Will Inherit The Earth I thought I would try something a little different this year and go monotone on the images. I wanted to capture a classic Horror Movie look and feel… There were thousands and thousands in attendance today. Ten photographers to every one zombie! Huge numbers that literally brought Melbourne to an absolute standstill. Enough from me, here are the pics! Enjoy!

Devin Townsend Project And Periphery Live @ 170 Russell, Melbourne

I think I have photographed nearly every single Devin Townsend tour of the last 4-5 years. He tours Australia regularly and always without fail, the tours are a sell-out. As was tonight’s 170 Russell gig, with another to follow tomorrow. Supporting Devin tonight was Periphery. I hadn’t seen Periphery for a few years. From memory, it may have been opening for Devin again – although I can’t be too sure, I would have to check my archives. As beautifully as […]

Shortlisted… again! Well I have been shortlisted once again this year for the annual Monster Children photo comp. First of all we’d like to thank you for your support in the 2015 Photo Competition! We had tens of thousands of images, the response was overwhelming! And now we’d like to congratulate you on being selected in the first round of Shortlisted images! The Repercussion Of Dave Lombardo

To label Dave Lombardo as one of the finest drummers in Metal and beyond, is probably selling him a little short. As one of the founding members of Thrash Metal legends Slayer, Lombardo has led the way and defined the Thrash sound since the band’s debut album in 1983. In the early 80’s when Slayer was born and bred and largely a cacophony of messy guitars and screaming vocals, it was Lombardo that reigned it all in, gave it a […]

Abbath Live @ Max Watts, Melbourne

All Hail Satan! Rocked up to this one not really expecting much at all. I mean, standard-fare Black Metal I thought. You know the drill. Incoherent lyrics over a slew of blast beats praising Satan for an hour or so. Nothing wrong with that at all mind you, but what Abbath delivered, was anything but standard-fare. In fact, this was quite easily one of the best gigs of the year and easily one of the better Black Metal shows I […]

The Abandoned Bradmill Factory

Located at Fogarty Avenue in Yarraville, literally at the foot of the West Gate Bridge, is the abandoned Bradmill Factory. The abandoned mill is nearly 100 years old now and would have to be one of the most easily accessible derelict locations I’ve ever explored. Drove in, parked the car and in I went to take some photos. Not a soul around. The former textile mill is soon to become a ‘mini-suburb’ so I don’t think it will be around […]

KISS Live @ Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne

After almost 10 years of being a Rock Photographer and after a couple of near opportunities, I finally photographed KISS. It finally happened. It finally came to pass. The stars aligned. The heavens parted. The Earth shook! Oh boy did it shake! After almost 10 years of being a Rock Photographer and after a couple of near opportunities, I finally photographed KISS. As a fan for 40 years, (yes, I can assure you, you heard right!) I found myself in […]

Behemoth, Watain Live @ 170 Russell, Melbourne

An incredible bill of extreme and oh so very Black Metal was collected for this tour. Dubbed the ‘Australian Satanist’ tour and featuring Behemoth, Watain and Bolzer, the tour collated by the incredible Soundworks Touring stormed it’s way across Australia finishing with a blistering, evil night at Melbourne’s 170 Russell venue. If by the end of the night, the bringer of light Lucifer himself had not been summoned to partake in the evening’s unholy festivities, I’d be very surprised. It […]

Makatron’s Karma-Sutra Burger Faces Censorship

Sex Burger By the time you’re reading this, chances are street artist Makatron’s ‘Karma-Sutra Burger’ will have already been covered up by the Moreland City council in Brunswick. Makatron completed the ‘controversial’ piece yesterday and within 24 hours, local residents have complained enough that the piece is now getting unwarranted attention. Typical outlets such as the Herald-Sun and 3AW were awash with complaints. Reason enough for me to go and grab some snaps of it before it all gets taken […]

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride 2015

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is a celebration of the art of being dapper and the style of classic custom motorcycles. Last year I stumbled upon the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride quite by accident. It proved to be such an amazing day that I certainly bookmarked it so I could check it all out again in 2015. So what’s it all about? On Sunday September 27th 2015, more than 30,000 smartly-dressed gentlefolk in over 400 cities will straddle the saddles of their […]

Interviewed on Radio 3CR’s Heavy Session

Several weeks ago I was approached by 3CR’s Heavy Session co-host Roger Brooks. He is a fan of my photography and was wondering if I could come into the 3CR studios and sit in on the show. I think it only took a second or two before I answered in the affirmative. I figured it would be some great publicity for my work and at the same time, it would be a ton of fun hanging out with Roger and […]

Everfresh Open Studio 2015

Last year’s Everfresh Open Studio was a success for both the Everfresh crew and yours truly. Many of last year’s photos were used throughout some of the studio’s mailing list collateral throughout the year and I was both honoured and chuffed that the lads enjoyed my work. Over 1,500 people visited the studio last year which was reason enough Everfresh decided to do the whole thing all over again. I was contacted by one of the promoters of the event […]

The Scumbags Tour Official VIP Party

With thanks to my brother (from another mother!) Anthony Allayialis of Eureka Rebellion Trading for the invitation, tonight was the VIP Party for the Scumbags Tour. Plenty of booze was flowing, plenty of kick ass Rock N Roll from local boys Clowns permeated the air and yet another classic Eureka Rebellion Trading shindig was in full swing! No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t get any shots of the barbers who were mingling with the crowd. Berths and Leen […]

The Twenty Greatest Metal Albums Of All Time

Death To All But Metal! Where does one begin? Seriously, how does one even begin to compile such a list? I have thought about this many, many times over the course of several years and I end up frustrating the hell out of myself! I try to think back over a lifetime of listening to music and break it all down into some sort of sensical list. Over the years, the list does change but the following records that have […]

Yob Live @ Max Watts, Melbourne

This was my first foray back into the Hifi Bar after its re-branding as Max Watts. As most of you regular readers would know, it is a venue I loathe photographing in due to the horrendous lighting on offer. Still, I had heard that things had improved with the new management so I quickly sought out to get a pass to shoot 2014’s mega-surprise packet Yob. Photographically it wasn’t the worst light I have seen at this venue, but it […]
