It’s not every day one gets the opportunity to photograph Robert Plant. For mine, there is none bigger than any member of Led Zeppelin so getting the chance to photograph such a legend – I jumped at the chance.
With two sold-out shows at the gorgeous Palais Theatre in St Kilda, my home and a mere walk away to get to the venue made it all even sweeter.
I arrived at the venue an hour before showtime and I was approached on three occasions by seperate people wanting tickets to tonight’s sold out concert. Alas I could not help them but I counted myself very lucky to be amongst this select crowd.
Although Robert is pretty far removed from the sound of Zeppelin these days, he still has the voice that not only powered that legend but all his various solo projects since 1980… Zeppelin’s end.
Backed by his new band, the Sensational Space Shapeshifters, (and yes, they were!) Plant pleased the crowd with Zeppelin treats scattered throughout what was an incredible set and performance.
Fortunately we were able to photograph him from either stage left or right and not a soundboard shoot.
Yeah it was a night of tingles and shivers up the spine. I mean, Robert Plant. Does it get any bigger? He may be a little older. Probably a hell of a lot wiser. But the voice… the voice remains and the minute that hand touches the mic and the singing begins… he’s got you captured whole.
