This was my first foray back into the Hifi Bar after its re-branding as Max Watts. As most of you regular readers would know, it is a venue I loathe photographing in due to the horrendous lighting on offer. Still, I had heard that things had improved with the new management so I quickly sought out to get a pass to shoot 2014’s mega-surprise packet Yob.
Photographically it wasn’t the worst light I have seen at this venue, but it still proved to be a difficult shoot. Either that or I just wasn’t in the right frame of mind but I wasn’t too pleased with tonight’s shots.
As disappointing a venue as this is, the band were on fire. Absolute power just pounding from that stage with precision and all round heaviness that left one’s rib cage rattling! Christ, for a three-piece band hailing from humble old Eugene, Oregon – they sure left an impression to say the least.
Yob’s 2014 album Clearing The Path To Ascend was one of the albums of the year last year. A superb opus that drew me to this band instantly. An incredibly powerful piece of heavy music that live, just translates into something ethereal beautiful in its power!
They truly were superb tonight and a reasonably full venue greeted them with open arms. But easily the best bit about shooting Yob, is the usual three song limit one gets in the photo pit is pretty much half of Yob’s set! 😉
